Graham Akhurst is a literary powerhouse. He is a Kokomini writer and a highly acclaimed academic and the Director of the Centre for the Advancement of Indigenous Knowledges at UTS. Graham has been featured nationally and internationally on the festival scene and has won many awards for his work.
His debut YA novel, Borderland, hit the shelves last year and was a smash hit, awarded the CBCA Book of the Year Notable 2024. Graham will discuss how he came to write Borderland and how much of himself is in the text. He will touch on his family, his history, and how his experiences growing up Indigenous in Brisbane shaped his life and that of the main protagonist.
